The Old Columban Society has over 3,000 members around the world. Founded in 1909, it keeps members in touch with each other and the College
The site is pretty much locked off to non members. When a user tries to register, they must be approved first by the administrator. The administrator was a list of past pupils so they can check a user is genuine.This prevents anyone except past pupils of St. Columba’s College having access to the site.
The purpose of the website is to keep members of the society in touch with each other. Also it provides news of up coming events to members.
Also news relevant to the college is also published on the site and photos are an important part of the site.
There is a membership sign up section and members can also message each other.
A newsletter has been integrated with the site so that an easy newsletter can be created from the blog and distributed to members who signed up to the site.
There is also a shop in which members can buy items such as cards and scarves.
